What are LED Stadium Lights?

LED Stadium Lighting are powerful, outdoor pole-mounted fixture. An LED version is available – LED Sports Stadium Light. They are equipped with narrow beam optics to light up a very specific location on a stadium playing surface. The larger the sports surface, the more LED sports lights are needed as each light can light up a specific, targeted location.

What are the Benefits of Using LED Stadium Lights?

The main type of fixture that LED sports lighting replaces is metal halide. LEDs can reduce your lighting bills by 50-75%. They are instant on, instant off, and need very little maintenance.

You can expect 10-20 years of life out of an LED light used in a stadium. This is because our stadium light customers do not use their lights for long periods every week.

And if you think about traditional lighting bulbs – their expected lifespan is 15000 hours. At only 7500 hours, they will have lost about half of their lumens. This means you will be changing out bulbs quicker if you want to maintain optimal lighting.

With LED, lumen loss is very slow and very little over the light’s long lifespan, and can expect high-quality light and bright light for years to come.

How Many Lumens Do I Need for a Sports Stadium or Sports Field?

Our largest LED sports lighting for the stadium is capable of producing 180,000 lumens. This is more than enough to replace a 2000-watt metal-halide fixture. A lighting plan will determine the right amount of lumens required for your needs.

In general, a stadium light should have at least 50,000 lumens. We offer LED fixtures to replace:

What are Common Types of LED Outdoor Sports Lighting?

You’ll find LED stadium lights used in many sports locations. This includes facilities where baseball, softball, and football are played. LED Stadium lights are a special type of powerful pole-mounted outdoor light with a variety of tight optic packages. It has high wattage and high-lumen fixtures that come with a series of narrow beam angles.

High-power stadium lights mount high and far from the playing surface. They use a focused beam angle to ensure the light it produces illuminates a specific location on the surface.

Our stadium lights are perfect for football, baseball, softball, and soccer fields.

What is the Best Height for Mounting Lights in a Sports Stadium or Athletic Field?

We have found poles used for school and recreational football facilities range from 30 to 60 feet in height. And up to 100 feet in college and professional locations. Our lighting software determines these heights. Based on experience, we learned that it is easier to light up a sporting facility with a taller pole than a shorter pole using sports fixtures.

How Many LED Sports Lights Do I Need?

The guideline has more to do with light levels, or foot candles on the playing surface, than several sports light fixtures. If you have a target light level, then you will have to add lights to achieve that level. A lighting design and lighting plan will show you how to achieve your light levels and calculate the number of fixtures you’ll need to achieve those light levels.

Our team of experts, from top LED stadium lighting manufacturers, will help you select the right stadium lights to produce high-quality lighting for sports games, live entertainment, and other large-scale events.

What is the Cost of Lighting up a Stadium or Sports Field with LED?

The best way to answer this question is to try and calculate the savings when you convert to LED Stadium Lights. You should be able to save at least 50% and up to 75% on your utility lighting bill when you convert. You can calculate your savings here on our energy savings calculator page.

What are our Best Selling LED Sports Field Lighting?

Our family of high-power floodlights is our best-selling stadium floodlights. These are available in 200-Watt, 400-Watt, 600-Watt, 800-Watt, and 1200-Watt options.

Why Do Metal Halide Stadium Lights Take So Long to Turn On?

This is a “Metal Halide Bulbs and High-Pressure Sodium” question. This is the nature of these lights. They need a lot of time to warm up. What’s worse, they also need a long cooldown time before they can be relit. This could result in long delays. LED Stadium lights are instant on, and if they shut down during play, you can have the lights back on in seconds!

How to Reduce Glare from Stadium Lighting

Can you use frosted Lenses? Yes and no. Frosted lenses will reduce glare. Often we need to use optics to narrow down the beam to light up specific locations on the playing surface. We do not offer frosted optics to do this. But with optics, they’re targeted towards a location on the playing surface and reduce the glare to the sides.

How Much Time Does It Take to Install LED Stadium Lighting?

It all depends on where sports field lighting is installed and how easy it is to access the lights. High pole mounts are harder to install on a catwalk near the top of a stadium. Make sure you are working with a professional licensed electrician.
