LED Marine Lights

Marine environments are hostile to most light fixtures. The lights contend with corrosion, snow, torrential rain and winds, and extreme high/low-temperature.

Our Marine rated light fixtures can withstand strong winds, rough contact, and water. These light fixtures can withstand saltwater corrosion causing premature failure on sea docks.

Marine light fixtures have layered coatings making them more durable against saltwater corrosion. The parts of the light fixtures exposed to saltwater are dipped in hot zinc to galvanize them. Fixtures can also be anodized in an electrolytic acid solution that strengthens against rust. Anodizing is usually done to aluminum products.

Finally, all marine fixtures should be salt water tested for 5000 -10,000 hours. If the fixture hasn't passed certification, its not a good choice for saltwater environments:

1. Resistance to Corrosion by Salt Water

Our Marine rated light fixtures can withstand strong winds, rough contact, and water. These light fixtures can withstand saltwater corrosion causing premature failure on sea docks.

2. IK Rating - (Impact Protection) for Marine LED Floods

The IK rating system defines the electrical fixture's enclosure to protect its internal components against force or mechanical impact. The impact is measured in joules. Joules are minute amounts of energy. One joule is all the energy required to lift one small apple off the ground to a 1-meter height. The scale is IK01 to IK10, IK10 being the stronger.

If the environment is subject to abuse, getting a high IK rated fixture protects the lighting investment.

MyLEDLightingGuide offers fixtures up to IK10, with many of our marine grade fixtures rated at IK08.

3. Ingress Protection Ratings (IP) - Waterproof fixtures

IP ratings describe a light fixture's level of sealing protection against the intrusion of foreign matters and moisture. The initials “IP” stand for Ingress Protection and are usually followed by numbers that have special meanings.

The first number indicates a light fixture's sealing efficiency against the intrusion of solid objects such as dust and dirt. The higher the digit, the higher the level of protection against solid objects.

The second number defines a light fixture’s sealing efficacy against the intrusion of water and moisture. The lowest number, 0, implies that the light fixture has no protection at all. The higher number suggests it can submerge in water without experiencing any damage.

The basic minimum for water protection level is IP65. The highest is IP69. All our LED Marine Lights are at least IP65 rated.
