What Does DLC Stand For?

DLC is an acronym for DesignLights Consortium. DLC is a non-profit organization whose goal is to drive efficient lighting by defining quality, facilitating thought leadership, and delivering tools and resources to the lighting market through open dialogue and collaboration.

More generally, as far as consumers are concerned, they provide a standard to which lights can be tested. If a light passes the tests as outlined in their guidelines, it is designed DLC Qualified.

It is not a safety standard like UL or ETL, but more of an efficiency standard. Once a light passes the standard, businesses like MyLEDLightingGuide are allowed to display the DLC Symbol with the associated product to show that light has met the efficiency standard.
