What Are LED Low Bay Lights?
Commercial and industrial spaces have high ceilings. Warehouses and factories use low bay lights . A high lumen output means uniform, well-distributed light in large spaces.
Low bay light fixtures are usually installed in ceilings that are 12 to 20 feet above the floor. Optics distribute the light evenly. By using optics to direct the light, lighting uniformity can be accomplished.
Low bays have high bulb intensity. This means there is little room for the light to diffuse before reaching the ground. The lower ceilings cause the fixtures to diffuse the light. This reduces the harsh reflection that the lower ceilings cause. They help produce a more natural, attractive light in large spaces with low ceilings. These fixtures usually have a wide beam angle of 120°.

We have LED Low bays fixtures that are rated between 130 and 180 lumens/watt. The higher the efficacy, the less watts you will consume producing the necessary light levels. While the initial cost may be slightly higher for the higher efficacy product, the payback will more than offset this additional cost.

Its not uncommon to see 2 different 100W LED Lights produce different amounts of lumens (aka light). That's because the efficiency's determined by the LED chips used. Products using older chips will produce less lumens than newer more efficient chips. And the difference can be dramatic. Its OK to pay attention to the watts of the unit, but also pay attention to the lumens it produces.
2. Wet Location LED Low Bays
IP rating designates a fixtures ability to keep out both dust and water. The first digit of the IP score designates dust protection, the second designates water protection. A water protection score of 5 or above helps protect your fixtures from water intrusion.
MyLEDLightingGuide Low Bay Lights are offered with IP ratings of IPx5, IPx6 and IPx7. This allows you to install these fixtures outdoors, exposed to the elements, if required.

Our constant current drivers are equipped to handle everything from 100 Volts up to to 480 Volts (standard driver in our kits are 100V-277V). We can handle single or 3-phase power as well.
4. Color Temperature Options
Color temperature or correlated color temperature, measures the temperature of a light source. The Kelvin scale measures a bulb's color temperature. Bulbs with a low color temperature produce warm light (in the red, orange, and yellow spectrum). Those with a high color temperature produce cool light (in blue and white spectrum).
We offer both 4000K and 5000K low bay fixtures for indoor lighting. Other color temperatures are available on request. Typically 4000K and 5000K satisfies 99% of all low bay requirements.
5. Light Quality: Color Rendering Index
Color rendering index defines the color of light. It tells us how well a light source will reveal the colors of items compared to sunlight (the ideal light source). When it comes to HID lamps, people usually complain about one thing: poor light color. Light color is important in low bay fixtures. It has a huge impact on clarity and contrast.
Most of our Low Bay fixtures are offered between CRI 70 and 85. We can special order almost any CRI you might need. Typically, for general purpose lighting, 70 CRI is all you need.
6. Beam Angles: Proper Light Distribution
The beam angle is what determines the distribution of light. A wide beam angle produces softer light and distributes it better to different areas of a room.
A narrow beam angle produces concentrated light good for accent lighting. It makes the light more intense and focused.
Our LED low bay lights are available in a range of beam angles: from 15° (narrow) to 120° (wide). For low bay applications, we recommend a wide beam distribution to offset the lower ceiling mounting heights. Not sure? We can take all the risk out of purchasing LED by doing a free photometric report with one of our fixtures to find the proper light distribution.
7. Lighting Controls
Motion Sensors and other controls can dramatically reduce lighting costs by turning off or dimming the lights when people leave the area.
PIR and microwave motion sensors can be added to turn the lights on when motion is detected and off / dimmed when no activity is detected. To dim, the bay fixtures need a 0-10V dimmable driver. Unlike traditional lighting, dimming LED fixtures is relatively simple and does not affect the life of the bay fixture.
And if you're trying to save additional money, nothing saves more money than off or 10% lit.

9. Lower Energy Costs and Maintenance Costs
One of the top benefits of LED technology is that it improves safety while reducing costs. Switching to LED can help a company to save millions of dollars on both energy and labor. LED lights need very little maintenance because they are very well constructed. The light fixtures also have a long life expectancy and draw very little electricity.
Many companies put off switching to LED because of the costs related to a lighting upgrade. But the thing is, the savings LED lights offer make the conversion project worthwhile. In general, the payback period for any large-scale upgrade is about 1 to 2 years.
Replacing light fixtures in low bay applications is expensive and labor-intensive. LED lights have a very long lifespan and lower maintenance costs.
LED bulbs last 50,000+ hours when ambient temperature is 55°C . At 25C, the life time jumps significantly. This equates to 10-20 years of fixture life.
