Get Your Free Warehouse Lighting Plan

MyLEDLightingGuide will create a free lighting plan for your commercial warehouse -  so that you don't have to risk buying the wrong LED fixture. With so many lumens and optic packages available, the chances of buying off the shelf product from large eCommerce websites and have great lighting is great.

A Light Plan provides a report that allows you to see the light levels, and distribution levels, before you buy. Our software accommodates  high ceiling space areas.

Commercial LED Warehouse Lighting

LED's are probably the biggest energy savings a warehouse can switch over to. Metal Halide and high-pressure sodium warehouse lights use 4-5 X more electricity and require more maintenance. They don't work well with motion sensors and are very difficult to dim.

There are many benefits of LED Warehouse  Fixtures vs Metal Halide, HPS or fluorescent lights. These include energy savings up to 75%,  4 to 5 time increased lifespans, decreased maintenance costs and improved light quality.

How to Choose the Right LED Warehouse Lights

Before finding the right led warehouse light, you will want to follow a few quick tips. Let's make sure you're choosing the best option for your commercial indoor warehouse space.

1. How to choose the right efficacy (lumens/watt) to maximize saving in your warehouse.

The higher a led warehouse lights efficacy, the less watts a warehouse light consumes to produce the same amount of lumens.

A 150W LED High Bay at 150 lumens/watt produces 22,500 lumens.
A 200W LED High Bay at 112.5 lumens/watt also produces 22,500 lumens.
For each hour both lights operate, the more efficient 150W light consumes 50 less watts. This is real energy savings.
More efficient lights typically cost a bit more at time of purchase. But they will save you a lot more money in reduced warehouse lighting bills over the life of the fixture.

The trade off: Lower cost at time of purchase versus more savings over the life of the high bay. The more efficient light will always pay itself off many times over its life.

2. How do I know whether to choose a UFO Round or Linear Panel Warehouse Light?

LED UFO Round Warehouse Lights are round, compact and rugged. They're designed to replace both low bay and high bay HID, Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium high bays. They're IP rated for wet locations, so if they happen to get wet, you're covered. They are smaller and more compact than their linear fixture counterparts.

LED Linear High Bays replace T5 and T8 tube style high bays. They're great options for led warehouse lights if you want a look that's similar to your existing tube fixtures.  These high bays low profile. And because they're panel style with linear led strips, offer great light distributions. They are typically used indoors only. These fixtures are larger than a UFO fixture.

3. How many LED Lumens should you choose when replacing Metal Halide or Fluorescent Warehouse Lights ?

It all depends what you currently have installed inside your warehouse.

250 Watt Metal Halide, you should choose between 10,000 to 12,000 LED Lumens

400 Watt Metal Halide, you should choose between 15,000 to 25,000 LED Lumens

1000 Watt Metal Halide, you should choose between 36,000 to 55,000 LED Lumens

4 tube F54T5HO, you should choose between 10,000 to 12,000 LED Lumens

6 tube F54T5HO, you should choose between 15,000 to 25,000 LED Lumens

8 tube F54T5HO, you should choose between 36,000 to 55,000 LED Lumens

4. Do you need a high voltage warehouse fixture?

Typically voltage ranges for LED warehouse lights are:

100V-277V (most common)
277V-480V
347V-480V (good choice for Canada)

LED Warehouse Lights automatically adjust to incoming voltage. There is no need to set the voltage. But it is important to make sure you have the right voltage selected when you order a warehouse light.

5. What Color Temperature should you choose for your warehouse lighting fixtures?

The two most common color temperatures are:

4000K - or Warm White
5000K - or Day White

These are by far the most common options used in today's warehouse conversions to LED. For those who like the bright white of Metal Halide, then 5000K would be your option. If you're looking for a slightly warmer (less stark) light, then 4000K should be a consideration.

5. What CRI should you consider when choosing Warehouse LED Lights?

This really depends what your application is. 90%+ of all warehouses will be fine with 70 CRI LED Lights. When warehouses also perform other tasks where color differentiation is a critical part of their process, then a higher CRI (80 - 95) may be ideal.

Keep in mind, LED is a better quality light than HPS, almost all Metal Halide and fluorescent light sources. So switching to LED in your warehouse will improve light quality.

6. You should remember this rule - Light Distribution is just as important as light levels

Its one thing to create a bright environment in your warehouse, its another to get the light evenly distributed. The last thing any warehouse owner wants is bright and dark spaces. Its much better if the light was even and uniform across the entire space.

So how can you ensure this is going to happen? The only way is to create a lighting plan before you buy. We create FREE warehouse lighting plans for our existing and future warehouse lighting customers. In these plans, we provide you with all the metrics that show you how BRIGHT the light is and how EVEN it is across the entire space

7. What if you need to add light controls to your Warehouse Lights?

The most common light control for indoor LED Warehouse Lights are motion sensors. The two most common sensors are microwave and PIR (Passive Infared).

Make sure your LED Warehouse Light is equipped with a 0-10V Dimmable driver. Motion sensors work with dimmable drivers to set a lower light level. Otherwise, all you have is on or off.

0-10V drivers - 0V does not always mean off. Make sure you ask us this question if you want the light to be off when no one is around. Otherwise, the lowest it will go is 10% on.

Don't forget your Warehouse Parking Lot

Don't forget the parking lot. LED Parking Lot Lights will make your outdoor space bright, safe and reduce your energy spend and maintenance costs. LED Wall Packs mounted on exterior walls provide excellent security lighting. Adding photocells to your outdoor lights allow them to go on at dusk and off at dawn. Adding motion sensors will allow you to dim your exterior LED lights to save even more money.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

How many LED lumens to replace 400W Metal Halide Warehouse Light?

We have found that a range between 18,000 and 30,000 offers the best lumen packages to replace 400W HID. For an answer specific to your warehouse we suggest doing a photometric study, which we provide for free.

How many LED lumens to replace 1000W Metal Halide Warehouse Light?

This is a very subjective question. Best can change based on the specific needs of the customer. What is best for one area may not be best for another. Conditions may exist that requires the use of a specific fixture over another. It may be because of light levels, distribution, heat, mounting height. Or it may be in a hazardous location.

We can help you determine the best High Bay LED Light for your application. We can provide you with the guidance to make the best selection.

What are the best color temperatures to use for Warehouse Lights?

The two most popular is 4000K and 5000K. 5000K is a good replacement for Metal Halide for warehouse fixtures. If you are currently using 4000K Fluorescent tube or HPS, 4000K would be a good option.

How many LED high bay lights do I need in my warehouse?

The best way to do this is to create a lighting layout using your warehouse. A lighting layout uses buildings dimensions and other factors and creates a software representation. We can then add your existing light locations and model this with different light options.
