LED Retrofit FAQ's

Q. Can you retrofit all HID fixtures?
A. Not all, but most. There has to be enough room in the fixture to install our LED Heads and drivers. We can retrofit High Bays, Low Bays, Canopy Lights, Flood Lights, Wall Packs, Post Lights, Street Lights, Shoe Box Lights and much more.

Q. How big are your retrofit heads?
A. They are round and are about 6" wide and about 2-3" deep.

Q. What can each head replace in terms of existing HID lights?
A. Our 48W LED head replaces a 175W HID Light, and out 93W LED Head replaces 400W HID.

Q. If your 93W head replaces 400W HID, then how can you replace 1000W HID?
A. Simple, we install multiple heads into a fixture. Most 1000W HID fixtures are large enough to hold 3 of our 93W LED Heads. For bigger requirements, we can install 4 heads, as long as the fixture is large enough to support the heads and their cooling needs.

Q. So what is all included in a HID to LED retrofit?
A. Typically, but not always, we create a custom plate for your fixture that we mount the LED Heads to. We attach our drivers to a secondary plate, or in the cavity where the existing HID ballast was, since there is no longer a need for the HID ballast. We also have a screw in assembly that we can attach a single LED Head to. This allows us to use the existing fixtures socket to hold the LED Head. The socket is unpowered, and we connect the output of the LED Driver directly to the LED Head itself. The screw in assembly will hold both the 48 and 93W LED Heads.

Q. How do we get a plate made for our fixture?
A. We ask that you send you fixture into the factory, and they will design a custom plate for your fixture. Typically, a small $50 design charge is associated with the creation of the plate. Once designed, we will send you back the fixture installed with the retrofit kit. If you proceed with the project, we can send out plates, LED Heads and drivers so that you can retrofit your existing fixtures.

Q. What if I don't want to retrofit and want new fixtures?
A. No problem. We have a full line of LED High Bays, LED Low Bays, LED Wall Packs and LED Flood Lights that we install our LED Retrofit heads into. So essentially, we are retrofitting brand new fixtures with LED Lights.

Q. Why would I retrofit versus buy a new fixture?
A. Typically a retrofit is cheaper than a new fixture, but labor involved in doing the retro fit may eat up any savings. There are times where there are specific fixtures that just need to be used in their exisitng setting. There are times companies want to replace their old fixtures. There is no right or wrong answer here. If you like your fixtures and are tired of hearing that you have to replace them to move over to LED, let us show you that is not your only option.

Q. Is there a maximum number of heads we could use in a retrofit?
A. No. The size of the fixture is the physical limitation. We have to keep the LED Heads cool, so as long as your fixture is able to support a LED Head, and there is physical room to install everything, it can be retrofitted.

Q. How long do your retrofit LED Heads last?
A. They are rated for over 100,000 hours of use, in normal operating conditions.

Q. What about the fan mounted on the back of the heat sink?
A. The fan is a Magnetic Levitation fan. These fans do not have bearings, and they are rated for over 100,000 hours of life. Without it, our LED heads would have to have a much larger heat sink to keep the LED's and electronics cool. A fan allows us to keep the LED footprint small, which means we can do a lot more in a smaller space than you could do with passive cooling options.

Q. What voltages can your LED Heads run under?
A. We offer 2 power supplies. One for 100-277V and one for 347-480V. There is a slight upcharge for the 347-480V drivers.

Q. Where are they made?
A. Here, in the USA. They are ARRA Compliant.

Q. Do they have a warranty?
A. They are warrantied for 5 years.

Q. What about retrofitting 75 or 100W HID bulbs?
A. We can do that as well. We have some great LED corn cob bulbs, including versions in 7, 10, 15 and 18W that do a terrific job of replacing those bulbs. Check them out in our Household bulb page.

Q. Why do you not have pricing on your website for the retrofit heads?
A. Every job is different, and we like to talk to our customers about their needs so that we can decide what the best solution for them is.

Q. Do you offer large quantity discounts?
A. Yes. Talk to us about your needs and give us the opportunity to quote you on both LED Retrofit options as well as new LED fixtures.

Top 3 Reasons you should convert to LED Lights

  • Reduced energy costs: our Industrial Strength LED Lights use approximately 25% of the electricity HID lights use.
  • Reduced maintenance cost: our long life LED Retrofits are rated for 100,000 hours. That means no bulbs or ballasts to replace.
  • Excels in hostile environments: our LED Retrofits are solid state electronics. Environments that HID lights have trouble operating in are typically not an issue for LED Lighting
